So this week the theme over at http://gothicarches.wordpress.com/ is clowns. I'm not a fan of clowns. I used to be. Before 1986 if I heard the word clown, my mind would associate words like silly and clumsy and fun. I would think of characters like Clarabelle, Emmett Kelly, Ronald McDonald and Bozo. But sometime in 1986 I picked up the Steven King book titled "It" and now forevermore, the word clown immediately brings to mind one character - "Pennywise the Dancin' Clown." I was a huge Steven King fan back in the eighties and nineties. The characters in his novels always gave me the creeps but the creature he brought to life in this novel and depicted as a sadistic, balloon-wielding clown from under the sewers literally gave me nightmares. Then a few years later, they filmed a television movie based on the book and me, being a glutton for punishment, just had to watch it didn't I. Round two of nightmares. Tim Curry's performance as the nightmarish, demon clown firmly embedded the "Clown equals Scary" synapse connection in my brain.
I'm hoping that in checking out all the other clown-themed arches, I'll start to think of clowns as sweet and silly and just plain fun again.
Oh man!! That's such a realistic arch Lisa! So true to the book and me too - I hate Pennywise, the clown. I also watched the mini-series and it was so scary. I used to read every book he wrote till The Sparrows one and that was it for me... just too creepy/weird. I never watch the films anymore either. My daughter hates clowns, always has and poor DH was a real live Circus clown on the Trapeze when he was young! Funny old world, isn't it?!

Okay, Lisa, now that you got that out of your system...I challenge you to make another one, this time tap into your childhood past memories of joy! BTW, you did an excellent job on this arch both in art, and in scaring us! I see what you saw. Let me know if you make another, I'd like to see.

Oh, Wow! I LOVE your previous gothic arches! The tethered one is so Beryl like, yummy! And the other has the coolest effects and composition! Is that spackle on transparency? Both are fabulous, Lisa!

When I think of clowns, I think of Red Skelton's Freddie the Freeloader - I LOVED him. And I think of the Cirque du Soleil clowns. I wish you could enjoy them as much as I do. While I loved Stephen King's The Stand, I've never read his book It. Thanks for the warning!

I'm not a fan of clowns either except for Red Skelton. I would have used his image but I didn't know if it were copyrighted. I love your arch. You did a great job with all the elements of the art piece.

I'm a little on the fence about clowns, this was a real challenge for me. Your arch is cool!

Lisa Dixon!!! I saw your name in the Gothic Arch list and said "Lisa Dixon!" right out loud. How are you? Great arch by the way. A little scary though!

Pennywise freaked me out big time too - always thought of him after reading the book when I had to reach my hand in between the slats on our barn door to turn on the light - Great arch!
